After college at
Miami U. in Ohio, I moved to Chapel Hill, NC where my future husband, Ed
Wilde, was studying for his PhD. We married soon thereafter, left NC, and
lived for periods of a year or two in various places: Bethlehem, PA;
Berlin, Germany; Washington DC; and DeLand, FL. Since 1972 we have lived
in Athens, Georgia (home of REM, the B-52's and other bands). We
originally moved here so that I could get my Master's degree in ceramics
at the University of Georgia. We only intended to stay two years, but
Athens seems to have captured us - we're still here! Ed and I have
no children - just a cat, Ziggy. I worked for about 10 years as a
studio potter, but eventually moved on to other things. Ed's past
work includes professor of political science, owner of a seafood
restaurant, and, most recently, a used and antiquarian book store which we
ran together. We've been retired for about 10 years. My interests
include Spanish (we belong to both a conversation group, and a Spanish
reading group, and have traveled to Guatemala and Mexico, and lived in
Spain); reading, going to movies, travel, and environmental issues. We're
involved with a group called The Memorial Park Weed Warriors which uses
volunteers to eradicate non-native invasive plant species from a local
public park in an attempt to restore its natural habitat. In two years
we've cleared over 6 acres! If you've got English ivy, privet or Chinese
wisteria growing on your property, get rid of it! We've also volunteered
with the Georgia State Botanical Garden (located here in Athens), leading
work groups on projects involving invasive plant eradication. We enjoy
working in the woods!
