Chuck and I have been married
since June of 1964. We have 3 children and have lived in several
different places and homes since then, including West Lafayette, Hershey
PA, Tyler, TX, Madison, WI. We settled in the Lake Oswego/Portland area
in 1984 and have never wanted to leave! I did actually teach school
(which is why I graduated from Purdue) for only 4 years until Chad was
born in 1969. Right on the heels of Chad came Jamie in 1970. I knew that
my public-school teaching days were over for a while. In 1975, Maggie was
born (our little "Texacan"). I was a stay-at-home mom for their
growing-up years and took advantage of the fact that I had the opportunity
to learn to cook (which I love to do), knit, coach a soccer team and teach
an aerobic dance class. When we moved to Oregon, we joined an
indoor/outdoor tennis club, Mountain Park Racquet Club, which has become
my home-away-from-home. I have the best of both worlds; playing and
working at the same facility. I act as the assistant manager and do all
membership sales Monday through Friday. The club is just a mile from our
home.
Chuck is starting to think about retiring; he's the marketing and sales veep for a manufacturing corporation in McMinnville, OR (the middle of the Oregon wine country) about 35 miles west of Portland. I plan on continuing at MPRC until i'm no longer able to play tennis. We are on of those forunate couples who have 2 adult children at home with us. Maggie is with us temporarily; she graduated from Western Oregon in 2005 and is working as a legal assitant in Salem. Chad works a few front desk shifts at MPRC and has a thriving house/pet sitting business. He is a very kind, sensitive and thoughtful young man and will always have a permanent place in our home. Jamie is married and currently lives in Virginia Beach with his wife and daughter, Josie (age 18 months). He and his wife, Melony, are both LtCdrs in the Navy; both fly F-18s. Melony and Jamie are expecting their second child in April. Having a grandchild is the most special gift in the world. The closest I can come to describing the feeling is that it's like being in love. Chuck's dad is our only parent living; he now lives in Flora IN and is 93 years old. A picture of me will have to come later unless I can attach this from work |
