I just discovered this great
website and have enjoyed reading about the various directions our lives
have taken in the past 50 years. A common theme others have already
expressed is the value that was placed on education. We can thank our
parents, WLHS, and the community for that legacy.
As for me I always wanted to be a geologist and live out west. So in a
past life, I went to Hanover College, got a masters degree from IU in
geophysics, and worked in Bakersfield, Houston, Jackson, OK City, Calgary,
Lead SD, and Helena Montana. Funny how our lives change, I then became a
stay-at-home dad and thoroughly enjoyed my new job raising 2 girls and
cooking for an appreciative audience. My geology training gave me a
wonderful appreciation for the world we see in our everday activities.
In my current life, I have now retired from 21 years working for REI, the
outdoor retailer co-op. It meshed wonderfully with my new found love of
outdoor pursuits; hiking, skiing, biking, and snowshoeing in the Colorado
Rockies. Then I found 2 new loves, dancing (both country and ballroom)
and my wife Mary. Our honeymoon was hiking the south coast of Crete on
9/11! We're still dancing, hiking, and biking 10 years later. And I'm
still pursuing my 2nd love, cooking for an appreciative audience. In
retirement I have been busier than ever, currently digitizing old family
records and photos, some dating to the late 1800's. Mary works in the
financial services business and will be cutting back to 3 days a week this
year. Retirement is not far off for her and we plan to do more, you
guessed it, dancing, hiking, biking, and more travel.
