2021 Hello Classmates- The most I remember of you all was how envious I was of your/our class when I came in 1960, how you were all such a "cool" group, like a family and your pasts were so intertwined. Quite different from my military family that had lived across the country and around the world. WL was my 4th HS in 4 years, and about as many grade schools. My father had helped start the PU NROTC in 1945 and then we were off to Hawaii and many other places. At WL I would walk most afternoons to Lambert and the PU pool to swim with my brother and the PU team that I eventually joined. The summer after our graduation I went to Great Lakes for Navy Basic Training so my Officer status as a NROTC grad would be enhanced with years served, not how most of you enjoyed your time then I bet. In 1965 my father, a retired Admiral decided I had been wasting my time as a swimmer and occasional student and had me drafted. He was quite right and it cou ldn't have been a better decision as I became a Navy Seal and straightened out a bit. After the Navy I went back to PU and became an English teacher and swim coach across the US and around the World. I left Sydney, Australia and arrived in Vincennes, In to teach and coach for the final time and luckily again meet my wife, get married at 39, have children and live happily ever after, mostly thanks to her. Two years ago we moved to Lafayette to be near our grandchildren and I'm looking forward to my first reunion. I'm back swimming at the new WLHS pool and sponsoring a scholarship for a better Harry. When I was 50 I ran 50 miles and did the Hawaii Ironman at 60 but I have become more sensible now and am looking to reconnect with classmates, especially in the area. Please do. |
