Son John, Carol and Husband Bob in St. Petersburg, Russia

  2011

I'm still working full time at the business that I started in 1982. Our company produces Dixieland Jazz Cruises. We hire the jazz bands (traditional only) and promote our cruises throughout North America. We have clients from Europe, Asia, Australia and Scandinavia, too.

Our first cruise was in January of 1983. January 2, 2012, we will celebrate 29 years. (I am seriously considering retirement after our January 4, 2013 cruise.)

Bob and I (second marriage for both of us) have been married 32 years. He long ago adopted my two sons, Richard and John. Richard is a computer trainer and travels the country under contract with different states. His last contracts have been in Colorado and Kentucky. Last week he left Kentucky to head home to California where he hopes to be for the next five years. Our grandchildren, Jon (age 23), Daniel (age 14) and Samantha (age 12) live in Sacramento. Our younger son, John, is a senior design engineer for Dell Computers. He lives in Austin, Texas, but travels to Taiwan and mainland China quite often. John received his doctorate in Usability and Human Factors. John reminds me a great deal of my dad.

Bob was a senior graphic designer for an ad agency in Northbrook, Illinois, until we moved to Florida in 1989. He has freelanced since then and (of course) he handles all of the advertising and sales promotion for JazzSea Cruises, our company. Bob was the lead singer and guitar for the folk group "The Great Chicago Fire" in the '60's and early 70's. He considers himself....."just an old folk singer".

We both love to travel although would prefer not to fly. Bob is 6' 2" tall and can't get comfortable on an airplane even the few times that we have flown first class.

We go to Hawaii every couple of years as we own two timeshares in Kauai.

The furry love of our lives is Reilly, a soft coated wheaten terrier. We rescued him four years ago.

We lived close to my parents in South Florida until we lost roofs and porches in three hurricanes within 14 months. All three storms were direct "hits". My mother passed in 2004 after a week of hospice care during hurricane Frances. After cleaning up from Hurricanes Jeanne and Frances, we purchased a lot in a subdivision in Tavares, FL. After Hurricane Wilma, we gave the builder the order "to proceed". We moved to Tavares with dad in August of 2006. Dad lived with us until he passed in November of 2008. We were so blessed to have him. He was 96.

I look forward to at least one more trip to Hawaii and a trip back to Ireland for my 70th birthday in two years. I still read all the time. I don't do as much needlepoint or knitting now as the arthritis in my hands is getting to be a problem. Both Bob and I are in good health. We like to cook (although he hogs the kitchen). We entertain frequently with our neighbors. Almost all of our Chicago area friends are here in Florida now and we see them every couple of months. Life is good and we are enjoying it.

We have traveled extensively and have files on hotels in Europe, particularly in ports from which cruise ships depart. Email me if you ever need suggestions.

I wish I could attend the reunion. I see many of your profiles on Facebook.... it would be nice to see you in person. We live only 45 minutes northwest of Walt Disney World and would love to visit with you if you are in the area. Hugs and blessings, Carol

2007

Thanks to my brother, Tommy Neuman (1957) I found this website and can update the email address on file.

After Purdue and later the University of Minnesota, I ended up in Chicago where I worked for Bell and Howell Company (Sales Promotion and Public Relations Manager for the Audio Vision Products Division).  One of my favorite parts of that job was to organize travel and meetings for our National Dealers.  After leaving Bell & Howell, I began my travel career in earnest.

My company, Cruise Tours Unlimited/JazzSea Cruises, just celebrated 25 years of "HOT JAZZ AND HIGH SEAS ADVENTURE aboard the MS Maasdam.  We chartered the ship and brought five Dixieland jazz bands, several guest artists and our "Banjos Aweigh" and "JazzSea Jammers".  Talk about a labor of love! (www.jazzsea.com)

Bob and I have two sons, Richard and John and two grandchildren, Daniel and Samantha.  My dad, 96 year old Lloyd Neuman, lives with us along with our 20 year old Maine Coon Cat, Murphy, and our 4 year old Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier.  Life has been very, very good to us.

We lived in the Northern Chicago suburbs for twenty years and still do our business banking with Ted Axton's bank.  Looking forward to attending a reunion (now that I know where to find the information) and possibly putting a reunion cruise together.
